Fr. Robert Spitzer, SJ: The Jesuit Hermeneutic of Pope Francis
Guest:
Pope Francis has his own style and form of writing, and he’s got a purpose. Why did Pope Francis choose these particular encyclicals letters? Why these particular contents? Why address these particular groups that he is inviting into a Church they may have previously written off?
In this talk entitled “The Jesuit Hermeneutic of Pope Francis: Go In Their Door So They Will Come Out of Yours,” Fr. Robert Spitzer, SJ, Founder of the Magis Institute for Reason and Faith, lays out the fourfold method of Pope Francis’ writings and explains how they relate to the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuit theme of “The Magis.” Fr. Spitzer’s talk was part of the Pope Francis’ Vision for the Renewal of the Church Symposium at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
