Dr. William Cook: Dante’s Other Guide: St. Francis of Assisi

Guest:

Dante famously had three guides on this trip through hell, purgatory and heaven: Virgil, Beatrice, and St. Bernard of Clairvoux. But is there a way to also see St. Francis as guiding Dante on his journey?

Dr. William R. Cook, Professor of History at SUNY Geneseo, looks at three central virtues of St. Francis, poverty, humility, and simplicity, and examines how Dante learned lessons from St. Francis to grow into each virtue in his talk entitled “Dante’s Other Guide: Francis of Assisi.” Dr. Cook’s talk was part of the CORE Lecture Series at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
